Inter-marriage Between Mainlanders and Taiwanese Tops 80,000 Pairs

According to statistics of Taiwan "Mainland Affair Committee of Executive Yuan", currently, the number of people involved in the cross-Strait marriage, who have been formally examined and verified by related Taiwan department, had exceeded 80,000 pairs by the end of this March. Calculated according to such a growth rate, the number will exceed 100,000 pairs by 2002. The Taiwan authorities allowed cross-Strait intermarriage in 1992. So far, 3600 spouses from the China's mainland are allowed to settle in Taiwan each year.
