The first cross-Strait chartered cargo plane will land at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Thursday morning, the China News reported.

Taiwan's biggest carrier, China Airline, will transport cargo via a Boeing 747-400 freighter from Taipei. The cargo will include eight-inch wafer apparatuses, which will be sent to a facility of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC), the world's biggest chip maker, in Songjiang District.

Taiwan's transport authority released the details on July 7, on how to apply for the cross-Strait chartered cargo flights, said Taiwan-based Economic Daily.

In addition to a cargo service, the mainland and the island are stepping up efforts to open direct passenger flights.

During the past two Spring Festivals, Taiwanese and mainland airliners have operated dozens of chartered flights to carry Taiwanese citizens, who work on the mainland, back to their home for the traditional Chinese holiday.
