TAIPEI, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan health authorities said late Thursday that the island had reported the first death from the A/H1N1 flu.

The dead was a 39-year-old male, who died Thursday evening despite doctors' efforts, the authorities said.

Currently, Taiwan had five A/H1N1 patients in serious condition.
